Terry Enright – Chair

Terry Enright

Terry Enright is a former Grain and livestock producer from the southern region of Western Australia.

He has played a leading role in the direction and management of agricultural research, including as Chair of the GRDC, the Australian Livestock Export corporation, The Australian Export Grains Innovation Centre, and Grains Australia.

Previous roles include a commissioner on the Export Wheat commission, and chair of the Albany Port Authority in West Australia.

Terry maintains a number of Agricultural related roles and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science in Agriculture from The University of WA.

Catherine Cooper

Based in SA, Catherine is an experienced Non-Executive Director with a portfolio of approximately 50 Board positions over 20 years. Positions have included Director/ Chair of public boards, NFP’s, industry bodies, RDC’s and regulators.

She is a Fellow of the AICD.
Current directorships include (not exhaustive): Director, Beston Global Food Company (ASX); Deputy Chair/ Commissioner, Australian Fisheries Management Authority; Deputy Chair/ Director, Australian Egg Corporation Limited; Director, Animal Health Australia; Director, Wine Australia Ltd; Chair, Environmental Protection Agency SA.

In addition to her background as a corporate/ commercial lawyer, Catherine has had a senior management career in agribusiness (Elders and Foster’s Brewing Group) both domestically and internationally. Those roles included trade and market access, customer engagement, product development, and establishment of export businesses internationally.

Rebecca Reardon

Rebecca Reardon

Rebecca Reardon operates, with her husband, a broad acre farming operation in Moree, NSW.  She has over 25 years in leadership roles for private and public grain agribusiness companies and in board director roles.

She is currently on the board of NSW Farmers Assoc, NSW Farmers Industrial Assoc, Grains Australia and NW Local Lands and Service, and has previously served on the Grain Trade Australia board, Direct Fertilizers Vic board, Wheat Industry Advisory Taskforce and the Grain Producers Australia policy group.

Rebecca is a Graduate of the AICD and holds an Honors degree in Agricultural Economics.

Stuart Richardson

Stuart Richardson

Based in Victoria, Stuart has over 30 years experience in the grains industry.

He has played a leading role in the TurfBreed Pty Ltd – non-executive Director since 2014. grass genetics management company, owning plant variety rights to 9 high quality turf varieties marketed and sold across Australia.

Previous roles include a commissioner Monthill Commodities Pty Ltd – Executive Director since 2010. A leading physical grain brokers in Australia and affiliated with the McDonald Pelz Global Commodities group globally.

Former Director of Grain Trade Australia and former Head of Trading at AWB where he developed and executed expansion strategies for AWB Limited in the US market.

Andrew Young

Andrew Young

Based in WA, Andrew has over 25 years’ experience in senior executive and director roles in leading agribusiness based in Australia and South East Asia. 

He is Executive Chairman and Managing Director of Plum Grove Pty Ltd, a grain accumulation and export business.

Andrew is Chairman of Westpork Pty Ltd, WA’s largest pork producer, and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.


Advisory Committee

Grains Australia’s Constitution specifies the establishment of an Advisory Committee to provide advice and comment on matters referred to it by the Secretary on behalf of the Board or Members (as applicable) under this Constitution.

The four-person Advisory Committee meets quarterly and consists of representatives from the Grains Research and Development Corporation, Grain Growers Limited, Grain Producers Australia and Grain Trade Australia.

Chief Executive Officer – Interim

Based in WA, Andrew has over 25 years’ experience in senior executive and director roles in leading agribusiness based in Australia and South East Asia. 

He is Executive Chairman and Managing Director of Plum Grove Pty Ltd, a grain accumulation and export business.

Andrew is Chairman of Westpork Pty Ltd, WA’s largest pork producer, and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Jennifer Hindmarsh

Jennifer Hindmarsh
Company Secretary

Jennifer Hindmarsh was appointed as company secretary for Grains Australia in October 2020. Jennifer also works for Wheat Quality Australia as company secretary and business manager. Prior to working for GAL and WQA, Jennifer has held roles within the United Nations, Sydney Water and the Australian Meat Livestock Corporation (AMLC).

It was at the AMLC where she developed her interest in agri-business and has continued to expand and elaborate on this interest in Australian rural industries. Jennifer holds Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages (Japanese), with a sub-major in Administration, from Canberra University as well a Diploma of Management and Certificate III in Accounting.

Megan Sheehy

Classification

Based in Adelaide, Megan joined Grains Australia as General Manager Classification in February 2022.

She has over 20 years’ experience in the barley, malting & brewing industries, including being Executive Chair of Barley Australia at the time of her appointment to GAL.

Dr Sheehy is a Fellow of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD) and a former Director and Chairperson for the Board of Management for the IBD’s Asia Pacific Section. Megan holds a PhD from the University of New South Wales, specialising in microbiology, and has held various operational and technical roles at Lion and Joe White Maltings. 

John Ackerman

John Ackerman
General Manager
Trade and Market Access

Based in Melbourne, John joined Grains Australia as General Manager Trade and Market Access in February 2022.

He has approximately 30 years of experience in the agriculture sector, focused on all aspects, including research, policy development, and industry representation, covering domestic and international elements, including trade and market access matters.

John spent 16 years prior to joining GAL based in Indonesia, from 2016 as a founding Director of PT Mitra Asia Lestari, a company focused on producing sound research, sustainable business development, and increasing leadership capacity within Southeast Asia’s agriculture and fisheries sectors. In 2011-2015 he was regional manager Meat and Livestock Australia’s Indonesia office, and 2006-2011 headed up the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry office within the Australian Embassy in Indonesia.

Dr Ackerman has a background in marine biology and ecology, obtaining his PhD in 2004 from James Cook University. He is a recipient of an Australian Day Achievement Award for his work overseas and sat on the Boards of the International Business Chamber in Indonesia and the Indonesia Australia Business Council.
