Southeast Asia’s food manufacturers got a first-hand look at the quality, versatility and nutritional value of Australian grains and pulses when Grains Australia joined Austrade and GLNC at Food Ingredients Asia in Jakarta.
Grains Australia supported the inaugural Australian Ingredients Advantage seminar, part of a week of engagement with customers in one of Australia’s most significant grain markets.
The seminar was held as part of Food Ingredients Asia Indonesia 2026, in collaboration with Austrade, the Grains & Legumes Nutrition Council (GLNC), and the Almond Board of Australia.

Grains Australia’s participation was supported by the Australian Government’s Accessing New Markets Initiative (ANMI).
Trade and Market Access Manager Lachlan Evans presented on behalf of the Australian grains industry, covering the quality and value of Australian wheat, barley, oats, sorghum and pulses, and how particular varieties and ingredient formats meet manufacturer needs for bread, noodles, beverages and other products. These messages were supported by Kathy La Macchia from GLNC, who provided insights into the health benefits of Australian grains.
The central message was “Our success is connected.” Australian growers take pride in supplying quality, consistent grain. Indonesian businesses bring manufacturing expertise, investment and knowledge of their customers. Both contribute to products sold in Indonesia and overseas.
Staying close to Australia’s largest wheat market
Indonesia remains Australia’s largest wheat market and its food manufacturing sector continues to expand.
On behalf of Australian growers and industry, Grains Australia’s maintains broad and strong connections across the Indonesian grain, milling and food manufacturing industries. Our engagement focuses on customer needs, regulatory requirements and policy decisions affecting Australian grain trade. Understanding Indonesia’s priorities and political context helps Grains Australia identify emerging market access matters early and respond with coordinated action with industry and government partners. We also provide technical support and information about the value and quality of Australia grains to help customers optimise value and position Australian grains as a preferred choice.
For Australian growers, this work supports efforts to maintain long-term market access, address trade impediments and identify opportunities earlier to build demand for their grain. It builds on decades of work by industry experts and government counterparts to establish trading relationships and resolve technical matters.
Grains Australia and the Almond Board of Australia are Trade Diversification Network (TDN) members under the Accessing New Markets Initiative (ANMI). Through the TDN, the Australian Government and industry work together to help Australian exporters enter and grow in markets such as Indonesia.
