The role of the Oilseed Council is to provide strategic advice to the Grains Australia Board on oilseed industry matters including priorities and activities, strategic classification requirements, trade and market access issues relevant to specific oilseed classes, and market information and education requirements.

Oilseed Council members include:

  • Chair: Michael Lamond – Western Australian agronomist and consultant, with experience in research and development, and technical expertise in canola.

  • Andrew Freebairn – Experienced in trading, with expertise in trade access and sustainability initiatives. Andrew is based in Victoria.

  • Rob Hall – Experienced in seed breeding, trait development and production, with an understanding of seed marketing and seed supply chains. Rob is based in Victoria.

  • Lachlan Herbert – New South Wales grower, with experience as a commercial adviser. 

  • Tom Mac Smith – Experienced in processing, with expertise in consumer relationships within education and marketing. Tom is based in NSW.

  • Jared Meredith – Experienced in trading and market relationships. Jared is based in Western Australia. 

  • Dan Morgan – Experienced in trading and processing, with an understanding of the global oilseed complex and drivers for crush margins. Dan is based in Victoria. 

  • Grant Pontifex – South Australian grower, with experience in governance and international grain trading. 

  • Maryann Salvetti – Queensland grower with experience in soybean varietal development.

  • Jon Slee – Experienced in processing, with expertise in crushing and knowledge of market drivers. Jon is based in Western Australia.

  • Luke Strudwick – Experienced in trading, with an understanding of legislative requirements and international markets. Luke is based in South Australia.
