Grains Australia has been formally selected to join Austrade’s new Trade Diversification Network (TDM), part of a $50 million initiative designed to help Australian exporters grow and diversify their markets.
“We are delighted to be chosen by Austrade as a peak industry partner for this critical initiative, which provides a direct channel to shape and accelerate our industry’s market diversification efforts,” Grains Australia Chief Executive Officer Richard Simonaitis said.
As part of the TDM, Grains Australia will work directly with Austrade to co-design a formal Trade Diversification Plan for the Australian grains industry.
This Plan will establish a formal mechanism for securing resources and delivering a coordinated program of industry-good activities, such as technical workshops, joint trade missions and developing new market insights.
Mr Simonaitis said Grains Australia was selected following a competitive process and the successful application was very positive news for the entire Australian grains value chain.
“Our focus will be on deepening engagement with partner countries, improving diversity and value for our industry and supporting improved nutritional outcomes for our customers globally,” he said.
“This is an opportunity to work collaboratively to build greater resilience and unlock new opportunities that deliver tangible, long-term value for Australian grain growers and exporters.”
“As an initiative of the Grains Research and Development Corporation, Grains Australia’s involvement in this partnership will further strengthen our important market access function – improving market diversification, reducing trade impediments and maintaining access.”
Mr Simonaitis thanked industry partners for their strong support during the application process.
“We are particularly grateful for the strong support provided by Grain Producers Australia and GrainGrowers,” he said.
“We look forward to working hand-in-glove with our partners to co-design this plan, ensuring it meets the specific needs of growers and the broader industry.”
The Trade Diversification Network will see Austrade and a select group of national peak bodies working together from late 2025 to June 2027, to deliver on the Australian Government’s new Accessing New Markets Initiative (ANMI).
ANMI’s purpose is to help Australian businesses respond to an increasing level of global economic uncertainty by building the resilience and diversification of Australia’s export markets.
