The Oat Varietal Classification Technical Committee (OTC) comprises oat technical experts and is an independent committee of Grains Australia.
Australian oat experts that have been appointed to the OTC are as follows:
- Michael Vaccari (Chair)– General Manager Commercial, Essantis
- Lee Mathie – Quaker Oats Australia Operations Manager, PepsiCo
- Sabori Mitra – Senior Research Scientist – Oats, AEGIC
- John Pitcher – Senior Research and Development Manager at Uncle Tobys/Nestlé
- Steve Prince, Safety & Quality Assurance Manager at Blue Lake Milling

This committee meets regularly to consider applications for classification and is tasked with assessing the milling quality of oat varieties against the technical requirements of milling, as outlined in the Oat Varietal Classification Framework.
As the industry is investing more in oat breeding it is increasingly important that Australia has a strong classification system that can ensure new varieties meet the immediate and long-term needs of domestic and international customers and Australian growers.
