Australia produces high quality oats that are highly sought after for their nutritional health benefits, renowned for their excellent taste, aroma and ease of processing.

Working closely with key industry stakeholders, Grains Australia has developed a new national oat variety classification framework that involves assessing the inherent quality characteristics of new oat varieties desired by customers.

Milling oat (primarily for, but not limited to porridge) is the initial focus of the framework. The Grains Australia Oat Council supports the Oat Varietal Classification Framework. The evaluation of oat applications is carried out by the Oat Varietal Classification Technical Committee (OTC), an independent committee of Grains Australia.
