Building upon its successful inaugural year in 2023, the Australia Awards Short Course on Grains Value Chain Leadership Program has brought a second cohort of future leaders of the Indonesian grains industry to Australia to develop their networks and knowledge.

“With grains supply chains extending beyond borders, participants will benefit from greater awareness of all aspects of the grains supply chain, improved business networks, enhanced collaboration and an enhanced ability to collaborate across the value chain,” Grains Australia Chief Executive Officer Richard Simonaitis said.

“Through enhancing their leadership skills and capacity, the program supports valuable bilateral opportunities to Indonesia and Australia that will better prepare both countries for the future – particularly in meeting the challenges of ensuring long-term food security in a changing environment.”

Grains Australia, which is an initiative of the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), is collaborating with industry to deliver the program which this year has 25 Indonesian course participants – comprising future grains industry leaders from that country’s grains supply chain

The Australia Awards Short Course participants arrived in Australia on July 21 and their two-week program includes meeting Australian industry participants as well as visits to farms, receival sites, plant breeder facilities and processing and manufacturing sites.

They will spend two days at the Australian Grains Industry Conference (AGIC) Australia in Melbourne on July 31 and August 1 where they will speak with leaders from many grains industry organisations.

The Australia Awards Short Course on Grains Value Chain Leadership Program is funded through the IA CEPA ECP Katalis program, an Indonesian and Australian government initiative specifically created to maximise the benefit of the Indonesia Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Arrangement (IA CEPA). This program is developed and delivered through collaboration with industry partners Grains Australia, the Indonesian Flour Milling Association (APTINDO) and the Indonesian Feedmills Association (GPMT).

The program is managed by Australia Awards in Indonesia (AAI) and implemented by The University of Queensland (UQ).

Organisations including the Australian Export Grains Innovation Centre (AEGIC), CBH Group, GrainCorp, GrainGrowers Limited, the Grain Industry Association of Western Australia (GIWA), Grain Producers Australia (GPA), the GRDC, InterGrain and Grain Trade Australia (GTA) are working closely with Grains Australia on delivering the program.
