Australian feed grain and China’s swine industry are the focus of a project for Grains Australia being undertaken by the Australian Export Grains Innovation Centre (AEGIC), which intends to grow the technical relationship between the two countries’ stockfeed industries.

Grains Australia Chief Executive Officer Richard Simonaitis said that while Australia had been supplying feed grain to China for decades, as demand from the swine industry grows, its requirements and modes of use are becoming more technically complex.

“The vision for this project is eventually developing a shared insight into the technical constraints involved and to ultimately increase the utilisation of Australian feed grain in China, which is the largest feed producer globally,” Mr Simonaitis said.

“The work aligns with strategic priorities around market expansion being pursued by Grains Australia’s commodity councils and will cover grains such as barley, wheat, lupins and more.

“During a recent visit to China, Grains Australia and AEGIC met with key feed grain industry associations to discuss future cooperation, an approach that was warmly welcomed as the industry in both countries looks to take advantage of significant trade opportunities.”

AEGIC and Grains Australia, which is an initiative of the Grains Research and Development Corporation, will visit China again in the coming months to meet with the major feed mills in the market, to continue to build technical rapport and trust between the industries.
