GRDC’s Research Update events are an important pathway for strengthening our relationships with growers and industry.
Throughout February and March 2026, Grains Australia staff were on hand in Adelaide, Perth, Bendigo, Wagga Wagga and Goondiwindi communicating new insights and connecting with growers and industry colleagues on how Grains Australia delivers value to the grains sector.Grains Australia CEO Richard Simonaitis presented a keynote address at Australia’s biggest Research Update event in Perth entitled What grain markets want; and how Australia delivers”. This wide-ranging presentation explored the major demand drivers for Australian grain with a focus on WA, and suggested potential strategies to maintain and grow our position in key markets.
At the Adelaide GRDC Research Update, Grains Australia Barley and Pulses Senior Markets Manager Mary Raynes spoke on new and emerging markets for pulses. Key messages included:
• Supply pulses that match the quality and end-use needs of specific markets.
• Australia’s pulse export offering should be able to flex with end-market policy cycles (e.g. India).
• Position faba beans and field peas for the growing protein and feed markets, while protecting premium food markets.
• Focus on quality and risk, and consider traceability and sustainability.
